I admit I’m kind of out the loop. The last few weeks/months I’ve spent more time fixing websites than paying attention to cars. Until this morning. I saw the new Acura NSX announcement — and then I saw the new Ford GT.
Launched today at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford GT comes loaded with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. Wait… what? A Ford GT with only a V6? Ford has yet to release specific specs but it is expected to deliver upwards of 600hp to the rear; within their most powerful, mid-mounted, EcoBoost production engine ever. (This must be what we get for allowing Formula 1 to go V6.)
The all-new GT supercar features a sleek, tear-drop carbon fiber cockpit, active aerodynamics and a curved windshield. And don’t you forget Ford SYNC. All of this is wrapped around the 600hp engine mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox.
Ford promises the GT will “exhibit one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car” and will go into production next year.
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t say I’ve ever been so excited by a single American-made car quite like this. I’ll be watching this closely, for now, from my computer screen.
